The Official 4w Status Update Thread

Hey everyone,

Alright since i am sick of getting loads of IMs and emails here is the low down on what is happening with the real 4w.

1. The servers are giving us an error related to the plesk control panel believing that the servers are filled, but they really have tonnes of space. So basically, 4w and everything it contains is still there but when you send a request to our server (aka typing in a 4w link) the server rejects your request because even having a user on it loads more crap into its cache. So by putting up the error page it uses the smallest amount of space in the cache possible.

2. The problem has migrated to 4w from the Christmas fourms. We originally thought we had fixed the issue by limiting it to the christmas forums and sectoring off 4w, but somehow the error is now affecting 4w.

3. Keith, Henry and I are working on it as much as we can. I can't give you a time, date or anything like that when 4w will be back up. Simply it will be up when its up. Between work, the holidays and now 4w the three of us are running on empty.

4. We've contacted a company to come in and completely fix/update our server, we have yet to get a quote back from them, but this may be the best solution.

Thats the story, i will be updating this thread after every e-meeting i have with Keith or Henry and will check this thread regularly to answer any questions. I will not be responding about 4w on IM or email from this point forward if you are a regular 4w member. I dont have time. Please dont bug me, every 5 minutes i have to take to respond to the same old question is 5 minutes i am not using to try and fix the server.

Thats not a bad idea. I just linked Kroner here and he's one of the people I would have thought would have been first to be told. I'll send the link to everyone I see online who hasnt already signed up.

Thanks for the update Essa, vague as it is. Sounds like its a problem that no one understands and no one knows how to sort out...and no one is around to help. I guess we'll have to wait some more!

Still, I guess of all the times for this to happen, now is probably one of the best. Everyone is tied up with Christmas related things right now and I can imagine the boards would be relatively quiet anyway. Its just a shame for the server elves who now have extra work

So now that 4w seems to be back online with a few minor bugs, we are faced with a tough choice guys.

1) Do we return back to 4w?

OR

2) Do we stay here and continue to smite each other's ass's till their a mighty red? The whole 'karma' thing has kind of been fun, hopefully King Essa can incorporate that design back over to 4w. Also, unlike 4w it's been nice that we can actually write out a post using the Quick Reply tool which saves you (as a poster) alot of time if your just making a relatively short post. Also, it's fucking fantastic that we can actually see what part of the forum were currently in as it has the name in the header up the top and the spell check tool is great for somebody like me.

Meh, JTF thanks for the temporary home, but I think I'm ready to return back home.

I doubt that ash. 4w is still buggy and has just in fact crashed again. Besides. I think I'll keep the forum open regardless. You never know if it'll happen again. And its nice having a small hid away.
